As a firm and your advisor, our investment strategies focus on trying to achieve ABL (avoid big losses). Trying to minimize the drawdowns will smooth out the ride as we work to achieve your investment goals.
Perry Clifton grew up and worked in the Bay Area for most of my life. He enjoys all the wonderful people, activities, and diversity you can find throughout the Bay Area and California.

What experience do you have?
Have been in the industry since 1990
Are you a fiduciary 100% of the time?
I am a fiduciary which means that I put your interest above my own. I am also insurance licensed which means that I do make commissions from the products that I sell which are paid directly to me from the insurance carriers or through my broker-dealer Sorrento Pacific Financial. The way I put a financial plan together is that I ensure your goals and objectives are met by a healthy balance between your investment and insurance products to craft a specialized portfolio designed specifically for you.
Who do you specialize in working with and how many clients do you have at a time?
I don’t specialize with a certain type of client. My experience works with all types of clients and asset levels.
Do you have a minimum portfolio size?
Depends upon the situation. I don’t have a specific portfolio requirement. Some of the investment strategies and products might have a minimum requirement.
What is your investment philosophy and how do you manage investments?
We look at unique Tactical Strategies that use low-cost, low-commission trading practices. We try to manage a healthy balance between risk and reward by mitigating the loss of a portfolio due to a downside in the market. We can’t get out of the market 100% of the time, nor can we get back in at the perfect time. However, we look for strategies that do their best to mitigate that negative market condition and capture more of that upside potential.
What does your planning process look like?
The planning process is usually dictated by the objective we are trying to address. The objective will determine if there is a need for a financial map or input from other advisors such as a CPA or attorney. After we determine our plan the implementation phase would begin. Once we have accomplished the goal we will provide ongoing review and follow-up to keep us on track.
How often do you meet with your clients?
It just depends upon the needs of the client. I have some clients that prefer to meet over a phone call or on-line meeting. some prefer to meet more in person. The client will dictate what works best for them.
I have some investments I want to manage on my own. Can I still work with you?
Not a problem. It is helpful to be aware of these other investments and how they relate to the objective and plan.
What is my total cost to work with you, how are you compensated, and where can I see this in writing?
Costs have a range depending upon the situation. Compensation can come from a commission from an insurance company or Broker-Dealer or from an advisory fee for managing an investment account. My ADV will provide more detail regarding advisory fees.
Are there financial incentives for you to recommend certain financial products?
Absolutely not. We have no proprietary requirements or funds. This allows us to do what is best for the client versus being forced to make something fit every situation.
Where do you keep my money and how can I see it?
We work with several custodians including Charles Schwab, TD Ameritrade, Goldman Sachs, and Interactive Brokers. Money invested in Cryptocurrency is held at Kingdom Trust Company. Clients can view their accounts via online access, on their mobile devices, and on their account statements.
Do you take custody of or have access to my assets?
We do not take custody of your assets. They are held at a custodian which you have complete access to. We will have limited access to your account for investment strategies and fees.
Are my assets pooled with other investor funds?
No, your account is your account. However, from a firm perspective, we trade in blocks which helps give us a better price as a firm and then we allocate those prices according to each of our client’s portfolios.
Can I get money out of my account quickly in case of an emergency?
Yes, you can link your bank account directly with your investment account at Tactive. If you have any issues at all you can contact our client’s support team and they would be happy to assist.
Do you contact me before you make trades in my accounts?
Since we are using an automated trading system and trades can happen frequently, we do not contact our clients before we make any trades. Remember you hired us to do this job for you using our expertise and strategies. You give us full authority to trade for you and as a fiduciary on the account, we are trading in your best interest. For some products related to my Broker-Dealer such as variable annuities permission may be needed to make any trades.
Is my account guaranteed?
Unfortunately in the investing world nothing can be guaranteed from a market loss. Your brokerage account is SPIC protected and many banking and insurance products have FDIC and state insurance protections in place.
How often will I receive statements on my account?
Inside your client portal, you will receive monthly statements that you can download at any time.
How do I pay you for your services?
We can take your payment directly out of your account which we bill on a monthly basis. That way you never have to write us a check or send us a payment, it’s all done automatically.
